Exegesis of the Qur’anic qaba qawsayn in the Tradition of Muslim Mysticism

Abstract
Qur’an 53:1-18 contains the passage about the first Muhammads vision. The Prophet was distance of «two bows-lenght» (qaba qawsayn) (53:9). The Muslim tradition attached great importance to this passage. Sufi masters prefer to comment this topic as the highest stage of approaching to God. The example of the exegesis of qāba qawsayn demonstrates the wholeness for mystical discourse in Muslim tradition. This paper examines the exegetic interpretation of al-Hallaj, Ruzbihan Baqli, al-Jurjani, Haydar Amuli, al-Suwaydi. This topic can be touchstone for textual analysis of difficult and nontrivial texts, including fragmentary materials.
